Brining healthcare to the heart of forgotten communities

Promoting Sustainable Change

Bringing Healthcare and Education to Underserved Communities in Tanzania and Zanzibar

We are excited to announce the expansion of The Orange Trust's outreach projects across Tanzania and the islands of Zanzibar. With the blessing of the Tanzanian government and guidance from top officials as well as the help from the locals, we plan to improve access to quality healthcare and education in remote rural areas through the service of dedicated volunteers.

Rotating teams of medical, dental, and education students along with professional doctors, dentists, teachers and volunteers, we will provide two-week placements of care. We already have the full support of the President of Zanzibar, the Minister of Health, and Sister Fatma Kara to run impactful pop-up clinics and develop infrastructure projects where the need is greatest.

Our incredibly capable director of East African projects, Sister Halima Kara, will lead design and construction of new school buildings, health centers and more based on WHO standards - and at remarkable speed. We are honored to have the expertise of East Africa's top two architects, Fatma and Halima Kara, on every new charity project. Their passion for uplifting underserved communities matches our own.

Some locations we will focus on include rural villages like Kidoti, Fuoni, Kianga, and Matemwe in Zanzibar. Our volunteer teams will offer free medical and dental screenings, distribute essential medicines, educate on preventative health, teach female wellness and safe pregnancy, expand schools, and more. By pairing visiting health experts with local staff, we aim to leave behind the skills and awareness to prevent disease outbreaks and catch treatable conditions before they deteriorate.

We intend for this to be the start of an ongoing collaboration spanning years to come, with guidance from Zanzibari officials on which public health and education initiatives would make the greatest impact on improving quality of life. It is an honor to restore access to healthcare and learning opportunities in a nation so rich in intellectual heritage and culture. We hope one day to reinvigorate Zanzibar's prestigious title as "The Island of Scholars."

Stay tuned for more details as projects get underway! Please spread the word so we can gain support to maximize this chance to alleviate hardship through sustainable development work with lasting impact.
